What is ASP and ASP.NET development?
ASP - Active Server Pages is Microsoft's server-side script instrument for dynamically-generated web pages. ASP performs on an IIS (Internet Information Server) - a web-server based on a Windows platform. It is not a programming language - it is only a technology of the preprocessing, permitting a program units connection during process of web page creation. Popularity of ASP was caused by the simplicity of scripting languages (VBScript or JScript) and the possibility of using external COM-components. Database Programming in ASP is the user interface realization to access the database. Now it has been displaced by ASP.NET.
ASP.NET is built on the CLR (Common Language Runtime), allowing ASP.NET programmers to write a code using any supported .NET language. ASP.NET pages are the main constructional block for web application programming. Microsoft has released some extension frameworks for ASP.NET programming that bung into ASP.NET and extend its functionality. These frameworks inspire the ASP.NET programmer to create web applications easily.
Why programming in asp
In spite of the fact that ASP and ASP.NET are Microsoft's products and you have to have Windows hosting to be an ASP web developer - it is a good alternative for PHP, ruby and other scripting languages. It is quite comfortable and rich technology in terms of possibilities.
ASP.NET aims for performance benefits over other script-based technologies (including Classic ASP) by compiling the server-side code to one or more DLL files on the web server. It means that the ASP.NET developers need not perform a separate compilation step for pages. And also there is an advantage that it is not essential to use the standard web forms development model when developing with ASP.NET.
